Coffee Pot Rock, appropriately named for its perculator shape, rises above Sedona. The Mogollon Rim is seen dusted with snow in the background. Sedona is situated at the base of the Mogollon Rim at the edge of the Colorado Plateau. Sedona's average elevation is about 4,500 feet. Although it generally snows a few times each winter in Sedona, the snow usually does not last on the ground very long. Winter snow accumulations last longer along the higher elevations of the Mogollon Rim and on the Colorado Plateau. Coffee Pot Rock and the adjacent rocks of West Sedona are particularly picturesque around sunset as the rocks take on a particularly warm glow. Due to the angle of the sun, winter sunsets light Coffee Pot Rock better than summer sunsets. This painting is produced from the vantage point of Airport Mesa, a popular sunset gathering spot for tourists and photographers.
