Sedona, Arizona and its extraordinarily beautiful landscape is the inspiration for a wide variety of Arizona art. The red rock Sedona landscape has been created from millions of years of geologic activity. Hiking Sedona or simply driving through town, one glimpses the layers of geologic time. Here one gains an appreciation for the eons of time required to lift and erode the landscape in a manner that urges a contemplative, if not spiritual, state of mind that stokes the fires of creativity.

It is perhaps this sense of mind that has attracted so many Arizona artists to this place, whether to paint Sedona red rocks or simply to fuel other creative endeavors. It was exactly this sense that attracted oil painter Steve Simon to this magnificent place. Sedona landscape is both inspirational muse and spectacular subject matter to this Sedona artist. Raised in Suburban Chicago, Simon eventually lived, worked, and studied on four continents and traveled to thirty countries before deciding to move to California to start a career as an artist. With a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration, becoming an oil painter was a somewhat unlikely and perhaps dubious choice. It was a choice, however, Simon made out of heartfelt passion and the California Coast was a place that resonated with his spirit.

California proved to be a wonderful place for the fledgling artist but after thirteen years in the State, Simon and his family felt it was time to move on. Arizona artists whom Simon had spoken with over the years had planted the seeds for his interest in Sedona but still he had never seen the red rocks for himself. One weekend the family went for a short getaway to experience the ambience and see firsthand the Sedona views. Collectively a real “Eureka” experience was felt. The next week the Simon’s home was up for sale in California and within a month the family had moved to Sedona.

Such experiences are not uncommon in this town nestled in the Coconino National Forest at the edge of the Colorado Plateau. Many profess feeling an undeniable magnetism to Sedona. Perhaps it is the geology of the rocks laid bare by the eroding Mogollon Rim at the edge of the Colorado Plateau. Some have claimed that the earth here is particularly alive with subtle energies and healing powers. Four specific spots amidst the Sedona red rocks have been identified as energy vortexes. Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, Airport Mesa, and Boynton Canyon are the four energy vortexes. Over three million tourists visit this town of 15,000 people annually. Many of these tourists come specifically to experience the vortexes or to at least indulge their curiosity. Many also come for the vast selection of Sedona art.

Whether you feel the energy or not, a trip to mystical and beautiful Sedona surely will not disappoint. Sedona activities include: hiking, sightseeing, jeep tours, balloon rides, plane and helicopter rides, river rafting, psychic readings, health and wellness retreats, shopping, and fine dining to name a few.

Perhaps after visiting, you might preserve the memories of the inspiring landscape with a fine art souvenir. Thank you for visiting the on-line store and thank you for your interest in Steve Simon’s Sedona art and Sedona gifts.
